Senior Environmental Scientist (Remediation) -
The Thrasher Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced full-time Senior Environmental Scientist to join our West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Ohio office locations.
Under the supervision of the Environmental Division Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment providing due diligence and remediation services. The position may require frequent out of town travel and overnight stays.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Hydrogeology, or related technical degree from an accredited university;
Required 7-15 years of environmental regulatory experience, brownfields assessment/cleanup, and UST closures;
Ohio VAP CP, West Virginia LRS, and/or PA PG required;
Working knowledge of West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania environmental regulations , Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) State/Federal regulations desired;
Must possess excellent communication and technical writing skills and be able to independently prepare a complete deliverable report with a focus on QA/QC;
Asbestos inspection, project monitor, and/or management planner certifications desired;
Excellent planning and organizational skills with strong problem solving abilities;
Ability to develop and maintain client relationships, manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines;
Experience with Trimble GPS and ArcGIS; and
Evaluate, analyze and interpret technical data relative to project specific goals, create and interpret accurate data to display on graphs and figures, complete basic fate and transport analysis, and identifies data gaps and data needs leading to development of a Conceptual Site Model and/or risk assessment;
Perform hydrogeological assessment regarding groundwater flow to identify contamination impact and related concerns. Understand slug test models and collecting aquifer data to populate the model;
Perform field activities including, sub-slab soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, well gauging, bailing, surveying, monitor well installations, remedial excavations, and fieldwork oversight;
Mentor junior employees by providing QA/QC support on reports and other deliverables;
Record data, prepare reports, provide analysis and interpretations of findings based on scientific experimentation and existing knowledge;
Handle activities for environmental monitoring and remediation projects, including effectively managing the implementation of project work plans including scheduling, reporting, budgeting support, subcontractor coordination and client and/or regulatory interaction;
Help prepare a variety of plans, including, but not limited to: NPDES, Contingency, SPCC, SPR, and PPC plans;
Preparing project documents including assessment plans, corrective action plans, remediation strategies and cost evaluations, permit applications, client correspondence, reports, or other technical specifications and bid documents.
Provide environmental compliance support for industrial clients;Must have hands on fieldwork and office experience in the environmental consulting field. Experience with drilling oversight and the ability to lead subsurface drilling events is a plus. Familiarity with Underground Storage Tank regulations is a plus;
Work outside with variable weather conditions in proper PPE;
Demonstrated understanding of due diligence report preparation including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and brownfield redevelopment processes;
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current with 8-hour refresher courses.
